Kindness is Cool: Kappa Alpha Psi Donates Fans to Senior Center
The Roanoke Rapids Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. donated fans to the Warren County Senior Center.
The Roanoke Rapids Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is known for their generosity, so their latest act of community service should not come as a surprise.
At the end of July during the peak days of sweltering heat, members Odell Clanton, William Kearney, and Brian Giddiens donated and delivered 20 fans to the Warren County Senior Center in Warrenton, NC.
Although the hot summer days affect us all, the heat can lead to serious health concerns for our elderly community. Prolonged exposure to higher temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
On site to receive the generous donation were Shawn Burton (Warren County Senior Center), Tyra Simes (Warren County Social Services), Alan Winstead (Kerr-Tar COG), and Crystal Smith (Interim County Manager).
This initiative was part of the fraternity’s ongoing efforts to support not only the Warren County community, but their philanthropic works span to Halifax and Northampton counties.
And their generosity is year-round. During the holiday season, the Kappa Alpha Psi members adopt a family in need for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Their most recent act of kindness will not only keep a nice breeze circulating through 20 households, but is also a potential lifesaver.
And we think that’s pretty cool.

With the temperature just right, former classmates, most adorned in t-shirts flaunting the year they graduated, got reacquainted on a lucky Friday the 13th (9/13) and enjoyed taking group pictures, sharing memories, and shopping with local vendors and food trucks.
The vibe was all about having a great time and set the tone for the rest of Homecoming weekend.
The Warren County Schools Homecoming parade was the perfect precursor and set the tone for the energetic weekend! The parade took over US 1 in Norlina on Friday, Sept. 13, and circled around Hyco Street, and along with our esteemed and talented students, the celebration featured numerous Warren County department heads and elected officials.

Several members of law enforcement, the fire department, and Warren County departments came out early Saturday morning (Sept. 14) to both entertainment and inform local residents. Attendees had the opportunity to sign up for upcoming Parks and Recreation activities, sit in the driver’s seat of a fire truck, fitted and gifted a bike helmet, register to win a bicycle, and sing and dance along to music curated by local radio personality and DJ Willie C.
