Warren County is proud to announce the return of the Warren County People’s Academy, launching its second annual cohort this spring. The 10-week program is designed to give residents a deeper understanding of how County Government operates, makes decisions, and collaborates with community partners.

The People’s Academy aims to increase transparency in local government, strengthen relationships between residents and County departments, and prepare participants to serve in civic leadership roles such as boards, committees, and advisory groups. The program also highlights the ways County Government works alongside Warren County Schools and other community organizations to serve residents.

The 10-week session will meet every Thursday evening from April 2 through May 21, with a formal graduation ceremony scheduled during the June Board of Commissioners meeting. Throughout the program, participants will explore the work of more than 15 County departments, take part in hands-on activities, and build meaningful connections with fellow cohort members. Meals will be provided at each session.

Applications will be available beginning February 18 on the County’s website and social media platforms, as well as in person at 602 W. Ridgeway Street. Space is limited, and early applications are encouraged.

Residents who are interested in assisting with the program or who have questions about the Academy can contact Matt Garner at matthewgarner@warrencountync.gov.

County leaders look forward to welcoming a new class of engaged citizens ready to learn more about the inner workings of local government and take an active role in shaping Warren County’s future.

The Warren County Veterans Services Office is proud to present “A Legacy Worth Delivering: Honoring the 6888th Battalion” – a special community tribute celebrating the heroic service of the only all-Black, all-female unit deployed overseas during World War II, while also recognizing the continued service of Veterans and Postal Workers past and present.

The event will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Seven Springs Farm and Vineyard in Norlina, North Carolina. Doors open at 2:00 PM, with the program beginning at 3:00 PM featuring a screening of The Six Triple Eight, a moving film that captures the legacy of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. Attendees will enjoy dinner during the screening, followed by a brief recognition program honoring the contributions of Veterans and Postal Workers – whose dedication and sacrifice mirror the spirit of the 6888th.

“The women of the 6888th answered the call in a time of both war and inequality. Their courage, efficiency, and commitment to duty helped restore morale across the military. Today, we carry their legacy forward by honoring not only them, but all those who have served in uniform and in the U.S. Postal Service,” said Jamytta Bell, Warren County Veteran Service Officer.

The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required to ensure seating and meal preparation. Please RSVP by July 10, 2025, at clicking here or by calling (252) 257-3385, Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM–3:00 PM.

Warren County is currently working on a major update to its development regulations, which involves revising its Zoning, Subdivision, and related ordinances and consolidating them into a single Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). This effort also aims to implement key recommendations from the 2022 Warren County Comprehensive Development Plan, helping to shape future growth and development in a way that reflects the community’s vision.

Community input is a vital part of this process.

Residents, business owners, and other stakeholders are invited to attend a public meeting on Monday, July 8, 2025, at the Warren County Armory Civic Center, located at 501 US Highway 158 Business East, Warrenton, NC 27589. The meeting will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

A presentation outlining the purpose and goals of the UDO update will begin at 5:30 PM, followed by an open-house format that will allow attendees to review draft materials, ask questions, and provide feedback directly to the project team.

This is an important opportunity for the public to help shape Warren County’s future by ensuring the updated ordinance reflects the community’s needs and priorities.

“A Unified Development Ordinance will make it easier for residents, developers, and business owners to understand the rules, navigate the process, and invest in our communities with confidence,” said Mark Bloomer, Warren County Planning and Zoning Director.

For more information and updates on the UDO process, community members are encouraged to visit
