Making a Difference Together – Sunday, September 29 at 1pm

This is an amazingly generous community, one that Lakeland Cultural Arts Center is proud to support. From collecting pet food for local shelters to Lakeland’s dedication to making a difference here at home puts the “community” in Community Theater. So, it’s no wonder that it now is proud to partner with key local organizations in “Making a Difference Together”! On Sunday, September 29 at 1pm, the Lakeland Cultural Arts Center will host a special event, “Making a Difference Together”! Enjoy a pre-show reception serving wine, soft drinks, and light hors d’oeuvres. Then, be escorted to privately reserved seats to enjoy the side-splitting show, The Savannah Sipping Society. Belly laughs are expected at no extra cost! Then, enjoy the lasting feel-good knowing that your ticket proceeds went to support a well-deserved community endeavor like providing books for kids, preserving local history in Person’s Ordinary, conducting children’s vision testing, supporting cancer treatment, or helping us all be emergency prepared.

In this delightful, laugh-a-minute comedy, four unique Southern women, all needing to escape the sameness of their day-to-day routines, are drawn together by Fate- and an impromptu happy hour- and decide it’s high time to reclaim the enthusiasm for life they’ve lost through the years. Randa, a perfectionist and workaholic, is struggling to cope with a surprise career derailment that, unfortunately, reveals that she has no life and no idea how to get one. Dot, still reeling from her husband’s recent demise and the loss of their plans for an idyllic retirement, faces the unsettling prospect of starting a new life from scratch—and all alone. Earthy and boisterous Marlafaye, a good ol’ Texas gal, has blasted into Savannah in the wake of losing her tom-cattin’ husband to a twenty-three-year-old dental hygienist. The strength of her desire to establish a new life is equaled only by her desire to wreak a righteous revenge on her ex. Also new to town, Jinx, a spunky ball of fire, offers her services as a much-needed life coach for these women. However, blinded by her determination and efforts to get their lives on track, she over-looks the fact that she’s the one most in need of sage advice. Over the course of six months, filled with laughter, hilarious misadventures, and the occasional liquid refreshment, these middle-aged women successfully bond and find the confidence to jumpstart their new lives. Together, they discover lasting friendships and a renewed determination to live in the moment—and most importantly, realize it’s never too late to make new old friends. So raise your glass to these strong Southern women and their fierce embrace of life and say “Cheers!” to this joyful and surprisingly touching Jones, Hope, Wooten comedy!

Join us to celebrate John Gall’s show, 30 Years of Printmaking, at Lakeland Cultural Arts Center on April 29th starting at 1 PM.

Meet John Gall and learn more about his work!

About the exhibit:
John Gall first began his artistic career as a painter in the mid-1970s creating traditional landscapes and still-life works but found his true voice as an artist much later after learning the art of intaglio printmaking. From 1990 to 2012, John created hundreds of original prints, a small selection of which are on display here.

Coming from a math and science background, John says he is fascinated by the aesthetic beauty of mathematical equations, graphs, and symbols. This love led to his exploration of the “Human” equation, which he describes as the most complex of them all. Throughout his work, John Gall combines a touch of surrealism with mathematical symbols and the human figure to depict the “Human” equation, or the connection between humanity and knowledge. He cites his mentors as Rembrandt, Goya, Whistler, and Picasso for their love of a strong graphic image and the craftsmanship in their prints.

He has had numerous solo exhibitions throughout his long career and is currently represented by several galleries across the Southeast. Since 2012, he has focused on oil painting and exploring his voice in a different medium.

A collection of his mixed media pieces is on display at Frank’s Fine Arts until May 13th.
