The Warrenist is an all-digital, multimedia platform and resource guide created to transform the media landscape in rural North Carolina by celebrating the art, culture, lifestyle, and people while bringing awareness to issues that directly affect the community.
Since its inception in March 2017, The Warrenist has played a pivotal role in highlighting and documenting key events in the community.
HIGHLIGHTS
THE WOMEN OF SOUL CITY (March 2017): Organized a documentary showing for Soul City, followed by an all-female panel featuring Charmaine McKissick-Melton, Jane Ball Groom, Wilhemenia Kearney, Ihsan Abdin, and Magnolia Jackson and closing remarks by Congresswoman Eva Clayton
RURAL EDUCATION ADVOCACY DAY (March 2017): Served on the media advisory board, appointed by Congresswoman Eva Clayton
CONFEDERATE STATUE REMOVAL (June 2020): The only media outlet to live stream the confederate statue being removed from the Warren County Courthouse Square
FALLIN’ FOR THE HOLIDAYS (December 2020): To bring holiday cheer at the end of a dismal year, The Warrenist organized a virtual festival complete with music, interviews, cooking segments, holiday wishes from local residents and Warren County natives, and a special surprise introduction from North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper
WUNC TRIVIA NIGHT (April + May 2021): Partnered with WUNC by providing trivia questions based on Warren County facts
THE VISIONARY BRUNCH (November 2021): A social event celebrating female entrepreneurs
The Warrenist was named one of thirteen New Media Projects to Watch by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) in February 2022. (Source)
